01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Diners who have tried the katsudon say there is so much broth that it shifts when you tilt the bowl, and that the thick cutlet and egg make for a satisfying meal. The sweet-and-savoury seasoning and soft, runny egg also made an impression. It is a good option when you want to savour a rice bowl that has soaked up the dashi.

Choose a regular katsudon for a filling bowl, or the mini katsudon set if you would prefer a lighter meal with noodles on the side. The set comes with a choice of mini udon or mini soba, either hot or cold. One diner who paired the mini katsudon with hot udon said the portion was just right.

The set meals let you choose a main such as pork ginger, tonkatsu or fried prawns. One diner recalled that the strongly seasoned pork ginger went well with rice, while a small side of grated daikon with shirasu offered a refreshing contrast. A set meal includes a small side dish, pickles, rice, a main and miso soup.

The main dish in the daily set changes. On one lunch visit, it came with mini chicken nanban and aji fry, along with nikujaga, simmered hijiki and salad. A diner who visited on another day reported an assortment of small side dishes, with a choice of which to have. At Chitose, you can settle on a particular main or see what the daily set brings, depending on what you feel like eating.
